  • Specimen Information
Test Description

ENA Profile-7 comprises of tests for dsDNA, Sm, Scl-70, Chromatin, Centromere, Histone and RNA POL III. An extractable nuclear antigen (ENA) panel detects the presence of one or more auto-antibodies in the blood that react with proteins in the cell nucleus. These proteins are known as “extractable” because they can be removed from cell nuclei using saline. Certain autoimmune disorders are characteristically associated with the presence of one or more anti-ENA antibodies. This association can be used to help diagnose an autoimmune disorder and to distinguish between disorders.

When should this test be ordered?
An ENA panel is ordered when a person has signs and symptoms that could be due to an autoimmune disorder and has a positive ANA test.
High Risk · Outside Reference Range
Greater than reference range:

{Sm, Scl-70, Chromatin, Centromere} : >= 81 (Units)
{Histone, RNA POL III} : >= 2.6 (Units)
{dsDNA} : >= 76 (IU/mL)

Diagnoses of autoimmune diseases are typically based on the characteristic signs and symptoms and on results of autoantibody tests. ENA panel results help to detect and distinguish between different autoimmune disorders.
Borderline Risk · Within Reference Range
Reference Range:

{Sm, Scl-70, Chromatin, Centromere} : 19-80 (Units)
{Histone, RNA POL III} : 1-2.5 (Units)
{dsDNA} : 30-75 (IU/mL)
Low Risk · Within Reference Range
Reference Range:

{Sm, Scl-70, Chromatin, Centromere} : 0-19 (Units)
{Histone, RNA POL III} : 0-0.9 (Units)
{dsDNA} : <= 29 (IU/mL)
